The Lady's Lounge - Melanie Robertson-King

Posted by mandybaggot on October 8, 2012 at 5:10 AM

In the Lady's Lounge today I have a very good friend of mine and fellow featured author with Loveahappyending - Melanie Robertson-King!

A Shadow in the Past is Melanie Robertson-King’s debut novel. Prior to turning her hand to fiction, she wrote articles and has been published in Canada, the US and the UK. In addition to writing, her interests include genealogy, photography and travel. On one of her trips to Scotland, she had the honor of meeting The Princess Royal.

Melanie is a member of Romance Writers of America and their Ottawa Chapter.

She lives in Brockville, Ontario, Canada along the shore of the majestic St. Lawrence River with her husband, son and oldest grandson.

Here comes the blurb to tempt you and all the links you need!

A Shadow in the Past

When a contemporary teen is transported back through time to the Victorian era, she becomes A Shadow in the Past…

When nineteen year old Sarah Shand finds herself in Victorian Era Aberdeenshire, Scotland, she has no idea how she got there. Her last memory is of being at the stone circle on the family farm in the year 2010.

Despite having difficulty coming to terms with her situation, Sarah quickly learns she must keep her true identity a secret.

Still, she feels stifled by the Victorians’ confining social practices, including arranged marriages between wealthy and influential families, confronts them head on and suffers the consequences.

When Sarah realizes she has fallen in love with the handsome Laird of Weetshill, she faces an agonizing decision. Does she try to find her way back to 2010 or remain in the past with the man she loves?

Thank you so much for stopping in the Lady's Lounge on your tour, Melanie!

Tell me about your latest work/work in progress in no more than 30 words.

Sarah Shand is transported back to Victorian Scotland where she falls for a handsome Laird. But will he be the next to break her heart? After all, he’s spoken for...

Tell me your writing dream.

I think everyone has the same dream. We want our books to be loved by our readers. We write because we love it and if we can make a decent living at it, it’s a bonus. Becoming a household name and having the means to be able to write full time rank up there, too.

Tell me more about you – where do you live? Tell me about your hobbies and what you do in your spare time when you’re not writing.

I live in Eastern Ontario, Canada in a city with a population of about 22,000 called Brockville. I love to travel, although I’ve not been able to do it as much in the past five years as I would like. Still, I managed a few day trips and a couple of overnights. When I have spare time in the summer, I enjoy walking with my husband along our beautiful waterfront (with or without the dog) and on the bicycle paths that connect a number of parks. In the winter, or even rainy days, I love to curl up with a good book (physical or on my iPad). Other things I enjoy are photography and I dabble in genealogy (which was a great help in researching my novel). And I collect stuffed animals! My most recent acquisition is a 53” tall brown bear.

Tell me what you like to watch on television – are you a soap addict or a fan of period dramas for instance?

I have to see Coronation Street. I’m hooked on it but that’s the only soap I watch. I love Downton Abbey and can’t wait for the next season to come on the telly. I also like to watch CSI, Bones and Criminal Minds.

Favourite band/singer – have you seen them in concert?

Gordon Lightfoot and Great Big Sea. I’ve seen both in concert in Brockville and Gordon is still pretty buffed for being in his 70s. Suffice it to say, I wouldn’t kick him out of bed for eating crackers... (wink, wink)

Favourite genre of fiction and/or favourite novel or author.

I read just about everything so I don’t think I have what anyone would call a favourite genre. It pretty much depends on my mood when I sit down to read. I tend to read a lot of police procedurals and the darker and grittier the better. I loved Dead Wood and Night Watcher by loveahappyending.com author Chris Longmuir and never pass up a novel by Stuart MacBride.

Quiz

In my novel ‘Knowing Me Knowing You’ Kate and Joel take part in a relationship contest a bit like ‘Mr & Mrs’. I thought it would be fun if you could answer their quick fire questions and readers of the page can make what they will from your answers! Choose one from the following pairs e.g. savoury or sweet based on your gut reaction to the words. Remember its quick fire!

Savoury or Sweet? Savoury

Action or relaxation? Relaxation

Up or down? Up

Tea or coffee? Coffee

Nightclub or wine bar? Wine bar

Ferrari or Porsche? Porsche

Truth or dare? Dare

Gym or bed? Bed

Flower or tree? Tree

Hot or cold? Hot

Bruce Forsyth or Dick Van Dyke? Dick Van Dyke (loved him in his old TV series with Rosemarie, Morey Amsterdam, Mary Tyler Moore) but he doesn’t look too bad with grey hair and a moustache.

Thank you so much for stopping into the Lady's Lounge, Melanie and I can't wait to read your novel!

Thanks for dropping by, Linn and Sheryl! Speaking of Gordon Lightfoot, there's only one song he doesn't do in concert anymore - Black Day in July.
